News: Randy Gradishar, an All-Pro former middle linebacker for the Denver Broncos and leader of the team’s legendary Orange Crush Defense, has been named Grand Marshal of the 2024 National Western Stock Show Parade.

Gradishar will lead the traditional drive of longhorn cattle, horses and western wagons through the streets of downtown Denver on Jan. 4. The parade celebrates the start of the 118th National Western Stock Show, which runs from Jan. 6-21.

The parade begins at noon outside Union Station and proceeds 12 blocks down 17th Street to Glenarm Place.

Following the parade, the public is invited to carry on the celebration by visiting the Stock Show air at McGregor Square, where there will be a food market, ice skating and appearances by the McNicholas Miniatures therapy horses and “royalty” from various area rodeos.

“It’s a great honor to have a football legend and dedicated Colorado ambassador for veterans like Randy Gradishar to lead our parade,” said Paul Andrews, the National Western Stock Show’s president and chief executive officer. “Randy embodies the values of tradition and service on which the Stock Show is founded.”

Gradishar’s dedication to veterans stems from his father, who fought in the South Pacific during World War II. His respect for the soldiers’ sacrifice and service is carried out through his commitment to positively impact the lives of those who have served.

“I’m incredibly proud to serve as this year’s Grand Marshal,” he said, noting that by doing so he can “encourage our youth to be their best, develop strong core values and embody a dedicated work ethic.”

During his time with the Denver Broncos, 1974-83, Gradishar was the 1978 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a seven-time NFL All-Pro. In 2024, he was a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist.

About the organization: The National Western Stock Show is considered one of the premiere events of its type, attracting some 700,000 visitors annually for its 16-day run that includes some 30 rodeos, 11 horse shows and countless other attractions.
