Where the good news shines
Broomfield native John Hoyland was one of three kickers honored as a star of the week by the commission that oversees the Lou Groza Award, the honor given to college football’s top placekicker.
The Wyoming junior made 4-of-4 field goal attempts in the Cowboys’ 35-26 victory over New Mexico. He also made all three PAT attempts, giving him 15 points in the game.
The field goals came from 38, 38, 34 and 26 yards.
Hoyland, a 2022 Lou Groza Award semifinalist, is 8-of-8 this year and is the only FBS kicker still perfect while having multiple attempts from 50-plus yards. Hoyland, a mechanical engineering major at Wyoming, starred at Legacy High.
