But the one thing we can’t ignore is the headline: BIFF! SENATOR’S FIST LANDS KERPLUNK ON EX-TYPO-THETAE NOSE

Senator James Reed of Missouri, part of Jim Pendergast’s Kansas City machine, served three terms and was noted for being one of the few Democrats to oppose Wilson’s League of Nations (on racist terms, saying it would lower the U.S. to associate with nonwhite and mongrel nations.)

According to the story, Reed punched John B. McIntyre of the Philadelphia Typothetae in the face after a Senate committee hearing. The United Typothetae of America was an association of publishers.
