110 YEARS AGO IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS

After 48 hours of heavy snow, the biggest snowstorm in Denver history is easing up. The records it set stand to this day.

The News tries to illustrate the situation with a map, and does the best it can with the 1913 printing technology.

As mentioned yesterday, the transportation focus is on trains and trams, no automobiles. In fact, one story specific tells autos to stay off the tram tracks as they are bring cleared.

A sidebar story reports on two dozen School of Mines volunteers who are slowly digging their way to rescue a buried tram car near Golden. They are digging in front a a rescue engine and slowly making their way down the tracks. Those in the stranded car are without food and water and some snow drifts are 12 feet high. (Even without drifts the snow is 4 feet deep in most areas.)
