All is not well in the British Empire, as Dominions that consider themselves “white man’s” country attempt to outlaw immigration within the empire “all orientals” even if British subjects or citizens of Britain’s ally Japan. This is causing problems in the “Jewel in The Crown” as the one thing India’s Muslims and Hindus can unite on is opposition to mistreatment of East Asian immigrants in South Africa. (There are many of them, including a young lawyer named Mahatma Gandi, who lived there for 20 years, returning to India in 1915.)
The archbishop of the Philippines seem more open on race, although patronizing. The story says he is “beloved by the natives” while he praises their devotion to family.
