This story would absolutely get a 10-episode docu-series order from Netflix during this truecrime craze we’re living in today.
What started as an assumption of kidnapping or an accidental drowning was eventually revealed to be a diabolical plot by Pearl O’Loughlin. Pearl murdered her 10-year-old stepdaughter, Leona, after a failed attempt at poisoning her by putting glass in a sugar bowl. Pearl also tried to kill her police-detective husband, Leo, with the tampered sugar. Leona’s grandfather, Dennis, discovered the glass in the sugar bowl, opening the case wide open and leading police to Pearl, who eventually confessed and served 19 years of a 62-year sentence before being released on parole.
