Crash leaves woman dead near Anschutz campus

A woman in Aurora was struck and killed by a vehicle near the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus on Tuesday morning, marking the 11th pedestrian crash death in the city this year.
Police responded to a car crash report around 8 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of East Montview Boulevard and Paris Street, according to a press release by the Aurora Police Department. Upon arrival, responders found that a woman — believed to be in her 20s — had been hit.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital and later died from her injuries, according to the release. The woman will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
The driver, a 20-year-old Denver woman with a red Subaru Legacy, stayed on scene and helped with the investigation.
“Investigators don’t suspect any aggravating contributing factors to the crash,” the department said.
The crash is the 56th traffic death in Aurora in 2023. It is the 11th pedestrian-related death. There were 20 pedestrian-auto deaths in 2022.
Colorado recorded 115 pedestrian fatalities in 2022, the highest number in the state’s history, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
