Where the good news shines

Chalk it up as an outstanding week for DU Pioneers basketball and coach Jeff Wulbrun.

The Pios continued to add to their roster Wednesday, adding incoming sophomore Tyson Garff for the 2023-24 season.

A 6-foot-6 guard from Kaysville, Utah, Garff adds “an elite-level shooter” in the Pioneer lineup, Wulbrun said. At Salt Lake Community College, Garff shot 40.8% from 3-point range. He averaged 9.2 points per game for a Bruins team that posted a 29-5 record.

“He will absolutely stretch the defense and open the lane up for guard penetration and post-up opportunities. He has great size and length, giving him the flexibility to guard multiple positions,” Wulbrun said.

Garff had a season-high 24 points against Community Christian College in 22 minutes. He also recorded four games with at least five 3-pointers.

DU signed Isaiah Carr, a 7-foot transfer from Grand Canyon, earlier in the week. Carr started six games for an NCAA Tournament team at Grand Canyon, which won 24 games and lost to Gonzaga in the Big Dance at Ball Arena.
