A paragraph unlikely to appear in 2023:

“Salina Downing, reported to be the most beautiful halfbreed maiden in Alaska, was arrested today following an investigation into the death of her mother, Mary Downing, who died in agony after eating three candle fish brought to her by John Harris, an Indian suitor for her daughter’s hand.”

Elsewhere:

• Another cartoon showing how much the News hates Mayor Speer and any thought of him becoming a senator.

• In Seattle, all the spectators, jurors and lawyers at a trial are vaccinated for smallpox after it turns out one witness tested positive.

• A pastor admits he has abused his horse but only on Sundays “because it was his method of effectng a sacrifice” and it didn’t hurt the horse since it was the Sabbath.
