The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday identified a man fatally shot the previous day in what authorities were calling an incident of self-defense.

Deputies arrived on a call about 6:15 p.m. Saturday on a man who had entered a home with a gun in the 9000 block of Fraser River Street in Littleton, in the Sterling Ranch subdivision, according to DCSO.

While deputies were en route to the call, they learned that one person had been shot inside the house.

Deputies found the man dead after they arrived on scene and went inside the home.

On Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office said that although they’re still investigating and conducting interviews, the shooting appeared to be an incident of self-defense. The two people knew each other, DCSO said.

The man who died was identified as Stan Collins, 59, of Littleton. The cause and manner of death were not yet available, DCSO said. The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the other involved person but said that person lived at the home.

Deputies said the community is not in danger and believe that the man killed did not live in the house, but it appears that he knew the people inside the home.
